Are you searching for a spiritual home where all are welcome? Look no further. When our forefathers and mothers settled and formed a church in Houghs Neck 129 years ago, they did so to provide a Christian community that would affirm who they were, their histories, their families and their deep faith in a loving God and their unity in the spirit. It is this legacy that we continue to lift up.
We are an open Community of Faith serving the families and people of Houghs Neck, Quincy and surrounding communities. We seek to create a space for all believers who know their spiritual pilgrimage is one among many. We seek to honor each person’s walk with God and see others who seek the loving presence of God as brothers and sisters.

Pastor’s Note
Easter 2024 Beloved People, Let me start with a question no one is asking. If the season of Lent is supposed to be 40 days in length, why do the days between Ash Wednesday (February 14) and Easter Eve (March 30) add up to 46? Answer: Because Sundays are “in” but not “of” Lent. Sundays without exception, are “little Easters,” set aside for celebrating the love of Jesus which is always and year-round stronger than death. In these raw March days, here at Houghs Neck Congregational Church we are especially blessed with “little Easter” reminders as green shoots of new life begin to appear in our garden. Maybe as you read this, you can picture these tangible signs of hope breaking through cold earth on the church’s north side. Maybe you are one of many who have helped tend our garden over several seasons—planting and weeding…and weeding…and weeding. Maybe your HNCC roots go back generations, enabling you to name some of our planting-saints who now stroll in the gardens of Paradise. Or maybe you’re a newcomer like me, regarding the “green blades rising” in nameless awe of all who have nurtured these visible signs of God’s love. Not a week goes by that couldn’t use at least one small reminder of Easter’s power to conquer death, yes? And it is for such work, for being gardeners in a weary world, that we are called. We are God’s Easter gardeners. In the words of hymn writer John Mcleod Campbell Crum: Now the green blade rises, from the buried grain, Wheat that in dark earth many days has lain; Love lives again, that with dead has been: Love is come again like wheat arising green. Easter Blessings! Pastor Kathleen |
upcoming events in the life of our church
Both the Merriam-Webster and Oxford English Dictionaries define a choir as an organized company of singers. Neither state that you have to be able to read music, have perfect pitch or an amazing voice. The Houghs Neck Congregational Church choir welcomes anyone who loves to sing. Each Wednesday evening from September through May, our talented director Steve Reed works with us going over individual parts until we are comfortable with them then magically combines our voices and voila - we have a four-part anthem for our Sunday service!
So, if you love to sing, give us a try. We meet at the Church (310 Manet Avenue, Quincy, MA 02169) Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 PM then again at 9:30 AM Sunday mornings to prepare for the 10:00 AM Worship Service.

Houghs Neck 1880s
April 18, 2024
Sponsored by the Seaside Social Club of the Houghs Neck Congregational Church
Presented by Patti Williams
In the 1880s Houghs Neck continued its development from farmland to seaside community. Farms are sold making room for residential housing (of all kinds) culminating in the late 1880s in Illuminations as cottagers dressed their houses in lanterns and bunting to see out the season. We see the first church and first fire station, the building of the Quincy Yacht Club’s clubhouse and hotels for visitors to the shore. Industrial uses of Nut Island continue with companies bringing large ships to be broken to recycle their iron, copper and other metals used in their construction and in some cases large parts of the ships such as a saloon cabin.
