Please join us for a new series of Houghs Neck History Talks. The 2022-23 talk series was arranged by subject, e.g. George Morton, Nut Island. The new 2023-24 talk series is arranged by time, e.g. Houghs Neck 1636-1849, Houghs Neck 1890s. The first talk, The Geology of Houghs Neck , September 19, takes us back millions of years to the time of volcanos and ice -- the elements that shaped (literally) Houghs Neck. The focus is on the three geographic features of Houghs Neck: rock, marsh and drumlin.
The December program is not a talk but rather a loose recreation of an 1893 Christmas in Houghs Neck variety show. This program will be on Sunday Dec. 10 from 2:00-4:00. The final program in the series focuses on the names of cottages in Houghs Neck at a time when there were no house numbers. The tradition of naming cottages/houses continues today. Each month’s raffle prize will be a pie made by Nancy Jacobs. All programs are at the Houghs Neck Congregation Church, 310 Manet Ave in Houghs Neck. All programs are free and are open to the public. |
