We take the Bible too seriously to take it all literally
The Bible is not like other books.
- It contains text that three of the world's major religions believe to be inspired by God: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
- It's not really one book, but many,
- Multiple authors wrote it across more than a millennium.
- It includes a large variety of types of literature - history, letters, prophecy, poetry, narrative, legal documents, building specifications and more!
- It was originally written in languages that now are only the languages of academic disciplines.
- Lots of people feel very strongly about what the Bible "means." And they don't agree. Not even biblical scholars!
