A Word from Pastor Lori

Happy Harvest Houghs Neck!

October is truly a fun month with pumpkins, hayrides, apple picking and the changing colors of fall. Children are looking forward to dress up and get candy for Halloween and most of us adults are fully entrenched back into our autumn routine. Part of our routine at church is to meet once a week for Bible study.

Last spring I shared with you that we were using a book “Walking with God through Pain and Suffering” by Timothy Keller. Currently, our eight-week fall Bible Study is an in-depth examination of The Lord’s Prayer. Most of us recite the Lord’s Prayer every Sunday during worship and maybe even at home when we offer up our private prayers, but have you ever wondered what those important words Jesus gave us mean?

Matthew 6:9-13 says, “Pray, then, in this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be revered as holy. May your kingdom come. May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…” Jesus in this famous passage of scripture is teaching His disciples and us, how to pray. It is the best example of how we should communicate with God.

During our study we are using a specially designed workbook to guide us through each line of this magnificent prayer, and ALL are welcome to join us for Bible study on Monday nights at 6PM in our Coffee Room or online. Even if you are unable to come to our meetings take a few quiet moments to read over Matthew chapter six and think about what Jesus might be saying to you about talking with God. It is a wonderful spiritual practice to enhance your fall routine.

Friends, enjoy this beautiful season of plenty and know that you are loved and blessed by our kind, generous Provider!

Grace & Peace,

Reverend Lori
