About Us
Houghs Neck Congregational Church has been part of the Houghs Neck community since 1894. Through generations of change, we have remained a place of faith, fellowship, service, and community — a church family where all are welcome.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Houghs Neck Congregational Church is to be an open and welcoming community of faith that proclaims and embodies the love of God in Jesus Christ.
It seeks to be a spiritual home that provides Christian teachings, nurture, and growth through spirit-filled worship, joyful music, freedom of thought and ideas, and opportunities for fellowship.
We are committed to the Christian upbringing of our children and youth through their participation in the life of the church, family worship and community involvement.
Together we strive to serve our church family, our community and the world through ministries of service, outreach, care and compassion.
What Our Worship Looks Like
Our Sunday worship follows a familiar and meaningful pattern of prayer, music, Scripture, and fellowship.
Every service is a little different, but here’s what you can generally expect:
Prelude: Meditative music helps us quiet our hearts and prepare for worship.
Choral Introit: Our choir welcomes us to worship with a short piece of music.
Call to Worship: A responsive reading brings us together in the presence of God.
Gathering Hymn: We join our voices in praise with our first hymn.
Invocation: Our Pastor leads us in an opening prayer.
Gloria Patri: Together, we sing a short song of praise to God.
Celebration of Life: We recognize members of our church family celebrating birthdays in the coming week.
Joys & Concerns: Everyone is invited to share joys and prayer concerns. Our Pastor then leads us in prayer, concluding with The Lord’s Prayer.
Offertory: We offer our gifts in support of the church and its ministries, followed by the Doxology and a prayer of thanksgiving.
Anthem: From September through early June, our choir shares a musical offering connected to the morning’s worship.
Scripture Readings: We hear readings from the Bible that guide our worship and message.
Hymn of the Day: We sing a hymn connected to the Scripture and sermon.
Sermon: Our Pastor shares a message offering reflection, encouragement, and inspiration from Scripture.
Communion: Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month and is open to all.
Sending Hymn: We join together in a final hymn before returning to our week.
Benediction: Our Pastor offers a blessing as we prepare to leave.
Postlude: Music accompanies our transition from worship back into our daily lives.
Time of Fellowship: After worship, everyone is invited to our Coffee Room for refreshments, conversation, and time together.
Whether this is your first Sunday or you’ve worshipped with us for years, there is a place for you here.

Our Stained Glass Windows
The stained glass windows of Houghs Neck Congregational Church are more than beautiful works of art. The windows were crafted by Charles J. Conick Associates of Boston, MA and James Francis Smith Stained Glass of Burlington, MA. Each tells a story and holds a special place in the history and life of our church.
